1st report from Abu Dhabi

I haven't chimed in for a while but have now been in Abu Dhabi for two
weeks! I'm starting to get adjusted to the new job and the new environment
such that it's not so crazy anymore to say to myself that "I live here". I
"live" in a hotel about three blocks from our office on the Corniche, which
is the road right next to the Persian Gulf. I walk to and from work and
have only broken a significant sweat once in doing so. While the
temperature has gotten to 104 during the day, it has been nice enough in the
evenings to eat outside at our local dive "Maroush" right near the office or
at the Emirates Palace for Lebanese food with a friend in town on business.
Yes, I realize I'm still keeping track of the temp in Fahrenheit, but I'm
trying to wean myself off it slowly, as well as moving toward the metric
system and thinking in the local currency. Trying to decide if the price of
apples quoted in Dirhams per kilogram was reasonable or not was no small
mental feat. I quickly gave up and decided I'd figure that out later!

I'm missing the girls quite a bit but Skyping them pretty regularly to get
to see them. They seem to like seeing themselves on the computer screen
about as much as they like seeing me! I don't blame them though - they're
much easier on the eyes. I show off my pictures of Laura and the girls that
we took for our Christmas card at the drop of a hat. Pretty much everyone
at the office has seen them more than once!

Look forward to connecting with everyone soon and will try to upload some
pictures, although it make take Laura over here to make that a reality.
Missing you all,

Jake
