There is a part of town we have pretty much avoided as much as we could due to the horrible traffic and construction. Hip, hip, hooray! Abu Dhabi's version of Boston's Big Dig is pretty much complete. Now we have a brand new tunnel that goes under a good part of the city (some of the most densely populated part of the city). We love the new Shiekh Zayed Tunnerl (although why they had to change the name of the road from Salaam Street to Skeikh Zayed is beyond me - we already have a million Zayed streets/ roads/ ports/ stadiums). But so it is.
This tunnel takes about 2 1/2 miles of stoplight after stoplight off our drive to many places. Now our travel time to our beach club has been cut in 1/2 and to golf lessons, shortened by a third. And I no longer avoid the Abu Dhabi mall like the plague (although I'll rarely go there no matter what!).
