The first night of the tournament, I went with a girlfriend and we took Regan and Meredith. We saw Andy Murray get beat by Tipsaveric. And then saw a match between Ferrer and Berdych (Ferrer seemed to want the win more though and beat Berdych pretty handily). We missed day 2 but Jake and I came back for the finals and saw a good match between Ferrer and Tipsaveric (I rooted for Ferrer - for the important reason that he seemed to treat the ball kids very nicely. :-) ).
The final match between Djokovic and Almagro (they flew this #11 in at the last minute when Nadal got sick with a stomach bug) was just fabulous. They cheerfully bantered with each other and the crowd and seemed to have a really, really good time playing this match. We thought that the match might be quite quick as Almagro has never beat Djokovic before and given that it is just an exhibition match, neither of them might have a big incentive to play hard (prize money isn't huge), but we were pleasantly surprised to see a very close and spirited match. Almagro inched out Djokovic in the first set which went into a tie breaker. Djokovic took the 2nd set 6-3 and then the last set was tied at 4-4 before Djokovic won the next two games to take his 2nd win of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship.
I can honestly say that I enjoyed almost every minute of being there and can't wait to go back next year (if we're in town).

| My new friend, Maggie, and me. She only recently moved to town and we have a mutual friend (Marianne!) from my business school days. Thanks for the intro, Marianne! |
