Happy Diamond Jubilee to the Queen of England

One of the major benefits of living here are all the people we meet and get to know from all over the world.  There is a sizable British population here so we were able to get into the swing of things with the big Diamond Jubilee celebration recognizing the 60 year reign of Queen Elizabeth.

Our compound had the equivalent of a U.S. block party to celebrate and we had a great time toasting the grand lady of the UK.  We all wore red, white and blue (which was quite convenient for us Americans!).  The kids got Union Jack tattoos, we made lots of crafts, competed in swim races (what other kind of games do you do in Abu Dhabi when it's 100 degrees outside!?!) and had a potluck under lots of British decorations.

We had a great time helping our British (and Commonwealth countries) celebrate an impressive 60 years on the throne!

I helped with crafts for the kids and we made Union Jack pinwheels,
crowns, royal fans and magnets and paper chains. Also afterwards Regan
was tough and scrubbed and scrubbed but Meredith's tattoo may stick around
for a while!

temps cooled off for the evening party

"Swim-with-a-cup-of-water-and-fill-a-bucket" races (among others).  Note
my friend Noch (*the* illustrius organizer!) wrapped patriotically in her British flag

Hmmm - now I am wondering what caught their attention
(announcing prizes maybe?)

Food time!

How very British!  Teapot cookie with Union Jack.

Jane won a prize for a swim relay (Regan also won a Queen Elizabeth
mask but I neglected to photograph it)
