Our first real autumn in a long, long time

Loved seeing our girls ooh and ahh when the leaves changed - we hadn't seen red and yellow and orange leaves in many, many years!

We've discovered the bike and running trail along the C&O canal and the Potomac River.  We will actually be able to bike or run there from our house but probably not until Anna is a bit more confident on her bicycle.  We don't have enough bikes yet for our family - but on our "gift" list as we progress through the year.

Jane on her older (and a bit too small!) bike from Abu Dhabi.  She was super happy to be back on a bicycle!

Anna's a little wobbly but with a little practice, I'm sure she'll be able to keep up with her sisters soon

Mere on her new bicycle

Off they go.  Regan stayed home - no bicycle for her (or for Jake and me!)

This is the narrow canal - where they used to send barges up and down for transport.   The two paths (one paved and one gravel) go between the canal and the river.

You can see the Potomac through the trees

Waterfall!

Our neighborhood is just lovely with all the trees

More ooh-ing and ahh-ing from the peanut gallery in the car

So-ooo, this is what happens if you leave your kids' beautiful pumpkin art out too long!

A-n-d, the temperature drops!  Brrr.

Having friends visit is the best!  Nibal and Leila here from Kansas City and we're off to get the best falafel in DC

My kids teaching Nibal how to play Phase 10 which is a card game we play pretty obsessively around here.

Nibal enjoying all the girls (she has two brothers at home).

Anna and her 3rd grade states presentation.  Anna got a speaking part and she did a great job in front of everyone.

Anna's project was on Minnesota.  Ask her what she learned the next time you see her.

Anna sharing with Mr. Barrett (our fabulous head of school) all about Minnesota

Meredith on fresh squeezed orange juice duty at the grocery store

Not sure what prompted this photo but isn't that sleeping angel just the best??
