Winter around Abu Dhabi

Winter in Abu Dhabi means sports, outside BBQs, nice weather and busy kids' activities.

This was my first Thanksgiving as a working mom in the UAE.  Thursday are my busiest day at work by far and I ended up with two whole partner group meetings that we just couldn't find another time to do so we booked a dinner out on actual Thanksgiving.  It was awful!  The food was good (kind of a British interpretation of what they think Thanksgiving should be!) but so noisy that we couldn't even chat as a family so my planned discussion of what we were thankful for as a family couldn't even happen).  But Thanksgiving was redeemed by friends the following day with a more traditional, relaxed meal.  The bad news is that I already looked at the 2017 work calendar and it looks like I'll still have to have *one* of those meetings on Thanksgiving Thursday next year, too...  Maybe we'll just pretend that Thanksgiving is on a Friday...

Winter also means the UAE's birthday (Happy 45th, UAE!), end of school semester activities and getting ready for Christmas.

Jane was picked to be co-captain of the soccer team by her teammates!

Test taking in comfort

Worst Thanksgiving ever.

But we still manage a smile

*Much* better Thanksgiving the following day with friends!

Time to decorate (er, assemble!) the tree

New ornaments this year from Italy and High Hampton (NC mtns)

Fond memories from our ski trip with friends last year - each marshmallow in this hot chocolate cup has the name of our family and the LaBrache family kids

Happy 45th Birthday, UAE!  Just a young pup of a country!

Regan & Jane needed to be in Sharjah (on the other side of Dubai) to take a test.  Since it was an early morning start, we spent the night nearby at a cool hotel with a dangling swimming pool!

Jane and Regan enjoying the pool that sticks out over the boardwalk overlooking Dubai Creek.

This is what it looked like from the top

Beautiful Dubai sunset

Back at school for more soccer and a gorgeous sky
