When cleaning some things out, I found this letter that Meredith wrote to President Obama last year when she was in first grade. I don't think I shared it then but she has given me permission to do so now. It's such a sad state that wars are still happening in our lifetime and seeing this sweet, innocent reaction from a 7-year old that is even more relevant today as the wars have only intensified.
Here is a translation if you can't read it (I'm not sure how she thinks the wars are in America but I guess to a first grader, it just means that they aren't *here*).
Dear President Obama,
Can you please stop the wars in America? 1) People have been dying in wars. 2) Buildings get destroyed. 3) Families get separated. I do not want people to die because I don't like kids dying, grown-ups dying or animals dying, too, and I don't want anything to die. I don't want anything to get knocked down. It is like a really special building get knocked down. I do not like families to get separated because how would the kids live without food? Instead of wars you could do something simple but not fighting. For example, you could talk it out or play rock, paper, scissor.
Hoping it will happen,
Meredith Puryear
