Terry Fox run in Abu Dhabi

The Terry Fox Run is an event in the UAE each year but we've never done it since it's not at a great time for us.  But this year, Regan's class was involved in fund raising for it so we arranged our schedule to attend.  I wasn't familiar with it but it's a Canadian charity run for cancer research that is run in cities all over the world.

In any case, I'm so glad we went to be a part of it.  20,000 people were there (or so the newspaper said)!  It was a level of civic engagement that I certainly did not expect in a small-ish transitory city filled with expats.  Most of the run t-shirts said what group they were with (Canadian Embassy, different corporations/ hotels, different schools, etc.) which was fun to see.  The newspaper says Abu Dhabi has the largest Terry Fox Run outside of Canada.  Very interesting!

It was an 8-K run but we didn't see many people actually running it - more of a large group walk/ stroll.  Although Regan was *very* disappointed she didn't get to run it.  Jake had a work meeting and he had to jump out early so it would have been hard for us to split up.  Next year, we'll have one of us run with her and any of the other girls who want to run the race.

Our family lining up at the starting line.  Anna got to ride most of the way!
