Fishing: An ode to Poppy and Uncle Clete

I've been meaning to do this for two years....  but Jane wrote a "how-to" essay when she was in first grade about "How to Go Fishing."  Here it is for Poppy and Uncle Clete - two family members who have made an effort to make sure this new generation has the joy and knowledge of fishing.  I will translate the phonetic first grade spelling (but will leave the fun spelling if it is still decipherable)!

"How to Cach a Fish" by Jane

Step1: Git your fishing poll and your wrms or rober insaks (rubber insects) and a bakit (bucket) to put the fish in.  Step 2: And then go and git in the car and go to the river or the lake.  You code (could) also go to the pond

Step 3: Git awt (out) of the car and go on a bote (boat) or stand on the dake (dock).  It is your choice.  Step 4: Put an insect on the hoke (hook).  Hode (hold) your fishing poll with tow (two) hands and push the batin (button) next to your thomb.

Step 5: Sling your arm bake (back) and take your thomb off the butin and sling the fishing poll forward.  Wate for a long or short wile (while).  You wate for the fish to bite the insect and when you see the bober go up and down.

Step 7: You rele it in rile (real) fast.  The fish mite jump off the hook only sometimes.  It does that.  Step 8: If it does not do that you rile (reel) it in and put it on the flor.  Sometimes you have to put your foot on the fish.

Step 9: Wate for the fish to come down.  Then you put the fish in the bucket.  Step 10: When you think that is inaf (enough) fish, padal (paddle) to the dock and make sure you git all your staf (stuff).  Git the rope to tiye the bowt (boat) to the poll.

Step 11: Get out of the boat and put all your stuff in the car.  You get in the car and go home.  Coke (cook) the fish for dinner.  Say yum, yum, yum.

In High Hampton in 2011, Cousin Clete watching the little ones after he got them all set up for fishing.
