It's a little different from a science festival in that you sing up for hands-on workshops. There are a few walk-up type activities and some nice shows but the real highlights are the workshops. Each workshop has two small groups - one in English and one in Arabic. All of them are age-specific so that the activities are appropriate.
Regan and Jane's first workshop was making a Planet in a Bottle brine shrimp terrarium. Our shrimp hatched a few days later and we're still enjoying seeing them swim around. Anna and Meredith made candles - but they did complain that the workers "helped" them a little too much.
Our second workshops were a "Build-It" for Meredith and Anna where they donned building gear and measured and hammered and stacked a bit. Fun stuff for the little ones. Regan and Jane recycled plastic and made rulers out of recycled plastic.
We watched a show called "Under Pressure." There were a few things blowing up and Anna didn't like those noises but good fun all around when the performer laid on a bed of nails and shot a Ken doll across a stage with vacuum pressure. We also saw some dancing robots which was fun for us all.
We still hope to get a science museum here during our time here (I hear rumblings….) but in the meantime, we'll continue to look forward to the annual festival.
