Happy Birthday Anna and Jake!

Sweet Anna is now four years old.  Wow, that is big and certainly not a baby any, any more.  This was her first real birthday party and she had very firm opinions on who she wanted to invite - her good friends Filippa and Agnes and then she started talking about some friend named "Merkel."  I had never heard of Merkel and Filippa and Agnes' moms hadn't either.  I was beginning to think it was an imaginary friend but then I did find out there is a new boy at school named "Marco."  But don't try to tell Anna that's house you pronounce it.  She will get angry with you.  Quite angry.  So we just call him Merkel around here.

In the end, it was just Filippa and Agnes but a small party like this was just our (and Anna's) speed.  We cleared out the carport and put her cardboard castle that she received for Christmas out there.  We took out the toy kitchen, doll house and set up some crafts.  It was a lovely day for an outdoor party and with a guest to helper ratio of about 1:3 with all the helpful big sisters (and Jake who made his famous homemade pizza for lunch), it was probably the most relaxing party I've hosted!

Happy 4th Birthday, Anna!

Cuddling with the piñata!

Play area is all ready for our guests (all two of them!)

Paper chains from Aunt Mary Ann came in handy
for decorations

Balloons to welcome our guests (and help them find
our villa since they all look alike!)

More paper chain decorations

Fun coloring and crafts (and look, that's me, sitting still
and relaxing!  I love this party!)

Sidewalk art

Agnes getting artsy

Meredith helping Anna and Filippa

Look at these sweet girls - still coloring and crafting.  And look, I'm relaxing
*and* carrying on a conversation with Agnes' mom.  (Did I mention
that I really loved this party?)

Filippa and Anna still coloring away

Decorating the cardboard castle

Look - *still* relaxing and conversing. Best. party. ever.

Jake fixed a great meal of homemade pizza and lots
of fruit for the party girls

Pin the tail on the pony

Meredith's turn

Now Jane

5 pieces of candy for everyone from the piñata (it's candy socialism
around here no matter how much you snatch when it breaks apart!)

Four candles for four wonderful years with our
lovely Anna!

Happy birthday, Anna!

Back to coloring and stamping now that all the craziness
of piñatas  and pin the tail on the pony is over.

Filippa didn't want to be in the group photo.  Jake finally gets to relax, too.

Stickers!  Anna love, love, loves stickers.

Pizza set for her well-loved kitchen (Thanks, Uncle Dan and Aunt Susan!)

This was Anna about 1.2 seconds after her head hit the pillow.
Even small parties can wear a little one out!

Oh, and Jake had a birthday in February, too (poor guy, no big party or celebration for him this year!)

Ok, let's try to get a good shot with Jake and all the girls.  Nope,
this isn't great. Let's try again.

Hmmm, this isn't it either.  Try again.

*Much* better.  Wait, we're missing one.  Oh, well!
