Regan's 3rd grade writing celebration

Regan's 3rd grade class had a wonderful writing celebration recently at school.  Each kid in the class stood in front of the whole class (parents included!) and read a short story they wrote.  I was so impressed with all the brave and articulate kids!

Of course, I particularly loved Regan's story which was about going camping with her Uncle John.  Below are some pictures of Regan reading the story as well as pictures of the actual story.  Her teacher took a video of each of the kids so once I get it, I will post it here as well.  Yay, Regan!!  (I've done a translation at the bottom in case it's too hard to read).

"Camping" by Regan Puryear

The fire crackled and popped.
The night was filled with stars,
like a hundred constellations.
We huddled around the fire.
The fire was piping hot!

Uncle John got up.  I followed as we got up from our chairs.
"Ready, Regan?" said Uncle John.  "Yep," I replied.
I started skipping down the gravel path.  I was careful to not step in mud.
I climb over the rock that Uncle John's younger brother got married on.
I skipped until I got to the edge of the ditch.
I turned around and Uncle John had a flashlight.
"How about we brush our teeth and get into bed?" said Uncle John.
"Ok," I replied.
We jumped into the tent and got our toothbrushes, tooth paste and water bottles.
We brush our teeth and got into the tent and stepped into our sleeping bags.

We lay there for 16 minutes and Uncle John slowly and quietly got out.
"What are you doing?" I said in a medium voice.
I scurried out after him.
"You forgot your flashlight," I said in a whisper voice.
"I know," he said.  I turned my flashlight on.
I went to go get his flashlight.
Before I came back, I heard, "Come here."
I had no time to grab my flashlight.
I was out.
"Do you see the Big Dipper?" he said
"Yes," I replied.
"Do you see the Little Dipper? he said.
"Yes," I said.
"And the North Star?"
"Yes," I said.

Uncle Tim and Aunt Vanessa, I hope you don't mind that Regan relegated your amazing wedding location to "the rock where Uncle John's younger brother got married"!!!  Seems it should be the other way around but the camping with Uncle John clearly made an impression on her.
