Summer in Arkansas (Part 1)

A highlight each summer is the time we spend in Arkansas.  Lots of good 'old' traditions as well as this year welcoming new visitors and friends!

Visiting a local farm/ farmer's market on the site of a former orphanage.  Beautiful location and Anna is checking out the chickens

The blackberry pickers.  7 pickers.  7 buckets.  I think we got 11 total blackberries (all eaten quickly!).  I think we were a bit early for the blackberry picking!!

We could enjoy the community gardens though.

Lunch time for adorable, precious, delicious hungry Silas!!!

Jack gets a lot of attention when the Puryear girls visit!

Annual pool party time and birthday cupcakes for Helen

The kids - fun to get al the kids of the cousins together

A little porch music in the music capital of Arkansas - Mountain View

A real old-fashioned swimming hole!  Kids had a blast here.

James and his 'critter'

Uncle John and all the kids at Blanchard Springs Cavern

Learning all about stalactites and stalagmites!

Hard to get all the kids smiling at the camera!

So wonderful to see Maxson and Sena and my girls!

Kids and water - the best!

Now - up on Petit Jean

It took a lot of work and bravery to get most everyone across the flowing water

Those that made it across got to go visit the waterfall.

Jane and Ameera

Even Anna made it across.  I didn't think she would but she persevered and was super brave!

(Out of order - enjoying the playground at Jojo's with the cousins

Uncle Bob bravely chaperones the first group to go out on horses

Off they go.

Now Group 2 is ready.

Off we go!

Farewell Abu Dhabi/ Texas friends!

Off to visit the Central High museum in Little Rock - site of an important moments in the Civil Rights struggle

The National Park museum is very well done - very sobering to visit.

Did you know that cheese dip (eg 'queso') was invented in Arkansas??  Don't let Texans tell you otherwise.  Introducing Zoe to her first cheese dip

Farewell dear Abu Dhabi friend - thanks for coming and until next time!

Zoe flying back to her grandparents' house in Florida.  Delayed flights meant she didn't get home until after 1 a.m. - poor kid!
