The kids get a two week spring break and we only took a five night trip to the Maldives so we still had lots of down time to enjoy. Here are a few photos of the rest of our break.
My friend, Maggie, & I took the three big girls plus a friend of Regan's to Dubai to see the One Direction concert (they are big in the tween world!). Jake stayed home with Anna.

| Zoe and Regan. Lunch at the Dubai Marina |
| A pre-concert swim. Regan with a big leap. |
| Mere, too. |
| Maggie (my fellow chaperone) and the girls |
| Maggie has a selfie stick. This is attempt #8 to get it to work. It worked!! |
| Jane at the concert |
| All the girls waiting.... and waiting... for the concert to start |
| One Direction! |
| Concert selfie stick!! |
| What the crowd looked like during a song where they asked everyone to hold up their phones |
| Meredith was *out* - a real concert went just a little too late for this eight year old. |
| Happy Easter at the hotel the morning after the concert |
| Jane and her penguin popper in her Easter basket |
| Vanessa, recognize Regan's shirt?? |
| Checking out the loot after the egg hunt |
| Our little Easter joke for the girls (you have to look at the chocolate bunnies for this to make sense). "My bottom hurts." "What???? I can't hear you." |
| My first real weekend breakfast in the UAE with Maggie and the girls at Eggspectations. Brought back a lot of fun memories of weekend breakfasts in San Francisco & Dallas before kids. |
| Boat bus on the Dubai Marina |
| Sharing noodles on our movie day before we went to see Cinderella |
| What is this, you ask? Why glow in the dark putt putt in Dubai, of course (after Regan's eye doctor appointment) |
| Neighborhood walk/ bike ride and cat cuddle with friendly cat the girls have named "Tiger" |
| Brave Meredith on the cable climb at a birthday party. I took the kids to do this ropes course a while back. Meredith made it through but she was terrified and a nice man who worked there went with her the whole way. I didn't know they would be doing the cable climb at the party but it was the first thing they were doing. Meredith got her harness on and away she went. |
| I only stayed long enough to see her make it through the whole course once but she says she did it over and over until it was time to move to the next station. Proud of that kid for getting over her fear! |
| The cable climb place (Adventure HQ) is pretty far from our place so Anna and I just killed some time waiting for Meredith. She got to go to this fun playplace while we waiting. |
| The big girls did The Macarena at the One Direction concert and now they are teaching it to Anna. |
| Hey-eeeey Macarena! |
| Time for a swim at our compound pool - still enjoying no school and Regan and Jane have friends over for the day. |
| Jane and her friend went on a scooter ride to see Jane's favorite neighborhood cat (Tiger - you can see her in the photo above). After cuddling with Tiger for a little while, she and her friend go to get back on their scooters and then *this* happened. A cat jumped out from under a car growling and snarling and attacked Jane! |
| Big puncture wounds on her thigh |
*Deep* scrapes! Fortunately we were able to find out whose cat it was and make sure it didn't have rabies or anything. I took her to the doctor before we found out whose cat it was and he told us to keep an eye out for "Cat Scratch Fever" which can come on six weeks after cat scratches. I just thought that was a made-up song by Ted Nugent and wasn't a real thing. Jane is fine and we're keeping lots of cream on her legs so that it hopefully won't leave scars. The naughty (owners prefer the word - fiesty) cat was fully checked out and is healthy so Jane should be fine, too. Fiesty, menace-to-society/ potato, po-tah-to. |
| Meredith had so much fun at the Adventure HQ birthday party that Jake took them back over the weekend. Here they are at the skateboard/ scooter park section. |
| Our THIRD trip to Dubai in 6 days. Whew - tired of that drive. This time the girls and I were off to see the Broadway Musical Annie. We found a new Southern BBQ joint and tried it out - yum! |
| They even had North Carolina vinegar sauce! |
| Annie! |
| A rousing game of Duck, Duck, Goose with my cousin's two boys |
| My girls and Abby's boys (Eli and Owen). It was fun having family visit as Abby and her husband and boys have recently moved to Kuwait. |
