School's out for the summer!

Another big milestone for our family - Regan is finished with elementary school and off to middle school next year.  And if we lived in the US, it would be a big milestone for Anna as she marches off to kindergarten but since our school has a pre-k year, she really only goes to a different side of the same hallway.  We'll celebrate this milestone nonetheless.

Here are some various "near the end of the school year" photos.

Our 4th year at Awana at church.  Anna got a teddy bear for participating in the Cubbies class.  Theme of the night was Red Carpet Awards night so we're all dressed up and having fun

Anna and her little cubbie bear

Very proud of Meredith - she completed her 3rd book (this is her 3rd year at Awana).  She also was bumped up from the Cubbies class her first year so she's been memorizing Bible verses since she was four years old and was the youngest one in her class each year.  She completed all three books in the Sparkies program - for a total of 150 Bible verses memorized over the past three years and more than 60 of them were this year.  Nicely done, Meredith!

This was Jane's FOURTH year to complete a book.  She did all three Sparkies books and completed her first T&T book this year.  It gets a lot harder at T&T and it was a lot of work to finish this book.  Only 4 kids out of 12 in my class (I taught this class) finished their books and Jane was one of them.  Jane memorized 150 verses during her three years of Sparkies and a whopping additional 80 verses(!) this year alone for a total of 230 verses (wow!).  And some of these verses are quite long. Congratulations, Jane.

Celebrating with a potlock after the awards ceremony.  Sitting next to Meredith is Jane's good friend Keren and Tolu is next to Jane.  Keren and Tolu (in addition to another boy Enoch) all finished their first T&T books this year.

Even I got dressed up for the Red Carpet Awards Night.  My little Awana girls!

Meredith's drama camp performance.  She was one of the pigs in the Three Little Pigs.

She did a great job with her lines!

The cast taking a bow!

Hmm, I only managed to get a photo of this amazing cake at the going away party we hosted for Meredith's friend Alicia and none of the honoree.  Alicia has a British passport, was born in Abu Dhabi and has lived here her whole life.  She and her family are off to China for their next adventure.  Love this amazing cake made by friend and neighbor (Fatima, aka The Eccentric Baker!) that celebrates Alicia's time in Abu Dhai and her future adventures in China.  We will miss this lovely family and dear friend of Meredith's.  Meredith and Alicia have been good friends since the first month we moved here.  Alicia and Meredith were in nursery together, then transitioned to elementary school together and have been in the same class all four years we've been in Abu Dhabi.

Meredith at a "Solve the Mystery of the Missing Goodie Bags" birthday party.  She's got her disguise on and is ready to be a sleuth-y detective.
Regan's dance recital to "Calling All the Monsters."  She is in the pink with black accents 2nd to the right.  The younger daughter (Maya) of good friends is in the matching outfit in the front left

Regan - far left now.  Her dance class was a lot of work - two hours each Saturday.  The teacher also taught the class in three languages - English, Arabic and French!  So each dance move had to be explained three times.  Crazy!

World Cup themed finale.  Regan is bearing what we think is the Portugal flag

Hugs from sisters and friends afterwards.  Nice job, Regan!

A new (to us!) minivan.  It's the exact same minivan we had before - just five years newer and bought from some friends who are moving to Singapore.  We're sad to see our friends go but are happy to have a new ride (I was starting to have some expensive problems with my 2006 Odyssey).

Fifth Grade gradution - this is 1/2 the group.  They are singing a version of Imagine Dragons "On Top of the World" continuing an ACS tradition when the 5th graders sing a farewell song to the elementary school (and make all the moms cry!)

Anna says farewell to Mrs. Gibson and KG1

Good-bye Ms. Becker and 3rd grade!

Jane got the writing award for her class - yay, Jane!
I'm having camera problems - so I'm substituting this photo from *last* year (Meredith had the same teacher for KG2 and 1st grade - yay!).  Farewell, Mrs. Chang!  Have a great summer and thanks for a great 1st grade year.

Lots of very, very sad 5th grade girls saying good-bye to Yu kyung who is off to India

Farewell 5th grade, Mrs. Kirk and the whole elementary school.  Regan has an amazing 5th grade year and we're so thankful that she had the lovely, nurturing Mrs. Kirk

A couple of videos.  This first one is Regan's group in the tri-lingual dance class performaing at the end of year recital to "Calling All The Monsters."  Unfortunately Regan spends a lot of time behind the tall girl in white but you can get a sense of the dance.  Very cute!  Once I get the official video, I'll try to replace this one - it will have a much better angel.  Luckily I could see Regan okay during the show - Jake stood off to the side to get a video of part of the dance.

The second video is Regan's 5th grade class singing a farewell song to the elementary school.  She is 3rd to the left in the 2nd row (right behind her friend Daniela in the pink skirt).  They showed a cute slideshow during the song with lots of 5th grade memories.
