This visit was extra-special since we were able to spend his birthday with him. He definitely had to play second fiddle to the 9 year old birthday girl but didn't seem to mind at all. He really seemed to enjoy watching Jane's party.
Jake took off from work on Thursday and then hit the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. It was a beautiful day and got to see some great golfers. They also ran into our preacher out there and had lunch together (it's hard to go many places in Abu Dhabi without running into people you know!).
The rest of the weekend seemed mainly about birthdays - Jane's, Carl's a good friend's 40th birthday party. Carl gamely stayed up *quite* late with us a black tie birthday celebration for her. Carl was also able to see the girls' soccer games and see a few more sites around Abu Dhabi.
We hope that it works out next year for Grandpa Carl to head down here after his Germany meetings and hope that it overlaps with his birthday again, too.
