This year both Jane and Regan attended sleep away camp for a week at Kanakuk in the Missouri Ozarks near Branson, Missouri. Regan attended last year and Jane was old enough to join this year. They both seemed to have a great time and stayed very busy. They made friends in their tee-pees and had lovely, warm counselors. Yay, Kanakuk!
I am very proud of my little campers. Two kids in each tee-pee get a special award and they both received one of them. Jane for giving 110%. Her counselors said there were a few girls in her tee-pee who were homesick and Jane did a great job of rallying the groups and keeping the morale high. Regan received the "I'm Third" award. Her counselors said that Regan faithfully followed the camp mantra of putting God first, others second and yourself third. It's just amazing seeing my kids blossom and really develop their own personalities and independence.
Kanakuk keeps the kids super busy - archery, wake boarding/ water skiing, canoeing, sailing, swimming, water sliding, hiking, climbing walls/ zip lines (my girls weren't quite ready for those yet). They sing and dance and have theme parties with costumers that sometimes involve mud or lots of bubbles. Jane was brave and tried "The Blob" three times. The blob is a giant pillow on the swimming pool. You jump onto from a high board and if someone else is on there, you can make them fly up into the air. Regan also did the blob once - but only because she said she felt she had to since Jane had already done it! Regan did do the big spiral water slide.
I really only have pictures of the drop off and pick up but can order a few photos from their website of some mid-week activities so hopefully once I do that, I can put a few of those up here, too.

Jane doesn't like being in the spotlight as her counselors
brag on her a bit. |
