Following on Meredith's birthday's heels is Halloween. Halloween really isn't a big deal (or a holiday at all) in the Middle East culture but I think there are enough British folks (and Americans) that it is catching on a bit (although I had a hard time finding wrapped Halloween candy). Costumes were hard to come by, too - but we had enough from years past to recycle. Our villa complex had a night of trick-or-treating. I wish I would have taken a picture of this but my favorite thing all night was stopping at a house where either locals or at least Middle Easterners live. They were getting into the Halloween spirit and were handing out gourmet chocolate from a giant beautiful box (and you better believe that I fished the pieces out of the girls' pumpkins for myself). That stuff was way too good to waste on my kids who would prefer those nasty fake gummy hamburgers.
Regan and Jane's elementary school had a big Halloween/ Fall Festival complete with costume parade. Jane was adorable as Super Girl. Regan elected to be a sort of witch princess. Anna was supposed to be a Razorback cheerleader (thanks, brother John!) but Meredith so fell in love with it that she squeezed into it even though it was much too small.
