Our new school

Regan had her first day of school (2nd grade) last Monday. Jane made it off the waitlist at the end of the first week and had her first day on Sunday (the weekend is Friday and Saturday here). Since kindergarten starts later, she only missed the first two days of school. Regan was quite nervous her first day (who wouldn't be???? New school, new town, new country, new weather, new everything - and no old friends). She did great. Had a smile on her face when I picked her up. Made a new friend her first day but took her three days to learn her name (Elizabeth). Regan was still nervous on day two but by day three, she said she was ready to walk herself to class (we haven't done that yet - I'm still walking her to her class room each day).

Jane was a champ. She is a little slower to warm up normally than Regan but when I asked her what she was thinking about starting school, she said that she was part excited and part happy. I think it was good that Regan started a few days before her so she got used to the building and was able to hear good things from Regan.

We're on a shortened schedule during Ramadan - which works well (an hour and 40 minutes shorter each day). They case ease into it and since I don't have a sitter, it's not a total disaster with Anna's nap (not easy and involves a lot of crying on our way home but still doable).

The kids wear PE uniforms every three days. The other two days they can wear what they want (I loved being at a uniform school in Charlotte - so this will be an adjustment). Regan was all into anything frilly in Charlotte but sometime over the summer decided that plain and sporty was better. So we're washing her non-frilly clothes a lot (we're still living out of suitcase as our stuff hasn't arrived yet).
