Anna's Birthday - postscript #1 - the Big Girls' Inspection

Feb 18th - Gammy brought the big girls over to see the new baby after school for Regan and naps for Jane and Meredith. Regan was about to keel over she was so tired, which is pretty unusual for her; she held the baby for a brief moment then gave her back to Laura and promptly laid down on a nearby couch. Meredith sat right next to Mom in the hospital bed and seemed keenly interested in this new addition. She held little Anna twice and was a real champ in doing so. She, like Regan long ago, seemed to want to "pet" the new creature.

Jane was pretty interested as well, although she politely declined to hold the new baby. While having most recently suggested she would want "six" in response to my question about how many kids she wanted to have someday, she was very concerned about the various injuries suffered by mom and baby as part of this process. She did not like Anna's funny looking belly button and was curious about the little tube taped to mom's arm. When told it was somewhat like a little shot that went in to Mom's arm to deliver medicine, she promptly (and perhaps wisely) informed us that she did not want to have any children of her own. Clearly the threat of a shot accompanying any new baby was enough of a deterrent for Jane!

Baby Anna continues to sleep well and track as the best baby we've had thus far, according to my faithful (and admittedly very weak) recollection. I am assuming that will most likely mean she is a holy terror once we step out of the hospital doors.

Congratulations, Puryears! Anna is another beauty. Jake, who knew you were such a prolific writer. A new calling perhaps? Hugs to all, especially supermom, Laura.
Love, Betty
